Odds and Ends

For those of you going to OTSN, the show is only two months away. At the moment the only new figures we know of are TSSD’s Alamo figures and Austin Miniatures Western figures. It will be interesting to hear on the room trading etc. If you have a car, there are many fine eating places away from the show. If you do not have a car and do not mind the walk there are a number of restaurants  outside and in the mall.  Have a great time.

The weather has been too hot to go out to the flea markets. The last thing we did was the toy show in Maryland.  We got to see many of our friends and pick up a few items for resale. On the way back, we stop in Bird in Hand for their food market. We get these apple fritters that are big as a small plate. Then we go to the Bird in Hand Restaurant, where we get their buffet. They have good Pennsylvanian Dutch food on the buffet, which Laurie likes. The price is reasonable, everything is included and if you get one of their coupons you can get $2.00 off per person from your bill for the buffet. (maximum of two people) I have philosophy of  going out to show  and afterwards eating good. I learned it from my father and it makes the trip more enjoyable.

The beginning of next month we will has Das Awkscht  Fescht in Macungie, PA. While the Das Awkscht  Fescht runs  from August 2 to 4th. The toy show will be on Saturday August 3.  There are two parts, an outdoor show that this year will be in the parking areas of Shoemaker and Macungie Elementary School, which is behind Eyer Middle School where the Indoor Toy Show is held. The dealers will start setting up on Friday through out the day. The indoor toy show will in the Eyer Middle School. Both events are away from the main event which is an antique car show, For more details go to the web site listed below

I’ve heard a rumor that Paragon was going to have their horse handlers at OTSN. Of course I haven’t checked the site lately to see if there are going to be any delays in the production release.

Joe’s Crab Shack is about two blocks east of the hotel, for those sea food lovers. For those directionally challenged that’s a left after exiting the main entrance.

Yeah there is all kinds of fast food places everywhere. Then they have your franchise places like Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Joe’s Crab Shack. I usually hit Portillo’s and Joe’s Crab Shack, Portillo’s has a passable Italian Beef sandwich, not the greatest, but good. The best places are in Chicago itself for Italian Beef’s but for a franchise fast food place they are not bad.

Yes the area has lots of franchise places, Laurie and I prefer the local places. We then to avoid the franchisee spots except for a quick meal. We have a local place we go on a Saturday get a cup of broccoli soup and chicken scampi with pasta and get two meals out of it.

The local family type restaurants seem to be a dying breed, they are going the way of the local hobby shops and family owned grocery stores. I did find a decent franchise place on the way to Indy in March, the Pot and Skillet, they had a real good pot roast and a very decent meat loaf, I will go again.

I did check the Paragon site and the horse handlers still appear to be on schedule for OTSN.

Good to hear that, Paragon is suppose to do Alamo, if they are at OTSN you will have to ask if they wil be inscale with their figures or TSSD.
