Ideal Pirate Ship Disney Version

Ideal did two versions of their piirate ship. The second version was put with Disney Figures. I got this ship  years ago and gave it to Laurie. The ship is the same as regular version except in different colors. The deck is in a lime green and ship is in pink. The rigging is purple. The only thing that is the same color with the regular pirate ship are masts, wheel, cannon and possible anchor (Laurie’s ship is missing the anchor.) The ship has one of the Disney character figures that went with the ship Daisy Duck.  The box is interesting as they call the ship as old fashion sailing ship instead of pirate ship.  It is a great variation of toy that is getting harder to find.

Very nice ship, I wish I would have had one when I was young, I used books as my ships.
I would set smaller books on top of larger ones, to make decks, etc. I have only seen the pirate ship on ebay one time. It definitely isn’t a common item. I was never aware of the Disney one. Thats also some very creative marketing by Ideal, lol. Old time sailing vessel. I wonder who the brains behind that was, lol.

Obviously, Mickey and crew are playing pirates, and even looking for buried treasure. Regardless though, what an enchanting, and charming little play set.

I picked this up years ago from an antique dealer ($25, no box) and for some reason I was THRILLED when I saw it. I loved it! Years later, my sister got our old family movies (which we hadn’t seen in years) put on VHS, and I knew why I had such a strong reaction- there I was, about 5 years old, towing my Disney pirate ship through the water at the local lake. I don’t remember that toy at all, but those happy memories must have still been with me, somewhere deep inside, and seeing that boat again touched a chord.

There are 8 figures, all great looking- Ideal at their best. They look nothing like the box illo, they’re quite interactive for the most part. Daisy is just standing there, but Donald has a spyglass and one arm out, to stand in the rigging and hang on by one arm. His 3 nephews are all made to grasp rigging or shinny up the mast. Minnie is steering, Mickey is wiping his forehead in worry, and Pluto is sitting down looking eager or happy. Too bad they didn’t make a Mickey pirate flag for it. Still a great piece with real nice colors.

I had that ship as a kid with the Disney figures, not sure what happened to the ship, but I had most of the figures for years at least into my teens, not sure exactly what happened to them after that. I remember I got that set the same Christmas as I got my first Alamo, you can probably guess what set got the most action.

Ideal also made a Disney Raft with a number of figures on it. I think they were the same poses.
