  1. Don Perkins says:

The Engineer Bassevitch sets always come with nice box art.

I look forward to the Replicant mounted commanches.

How did you conclude the Marx red wagon was a reissue? Do you know who made it? Did Bill Murray bring them up from Mexico?

    • Andy says:

I think the story goes that Murphy’s early recasts looked so good that people complained that their original Marx wagons would lose value through confusing original with recast, so he made the wagons in weird colors to avoid confusion. I have a red recast with all the little accessories and you can tell it’s a recast. Plastic is semi translucent and hanging water barrel is a little rough.

To answer your questions, I can tell two ways first is the weight and color is wrong. Second I know the story on the wagon, which I will explain. It was done by Murphy in the U.S.

  2. Tom Black says:

Now I regret not buying the OWN Japanese! I bet they go very well with the Engineer Bassevich upcoming set.

  3. Bill Nevins says:

Well, I know the whole red wagon story, but I won’t ruin it for Paul.

    Westward Ho!!!

    • admin says:

bill email your version and we will see where we agree and disagree

    • Don Perkins says:

I’m starting to get interested in the details of the story of this Marx reissue red buckboard wagon. I actually would like to hear both stories — both Bill & Paul’s. Of course, the stories may be substantially the same, but the telling of them and a few details may diverge.

This is one of the reasons it was always so interesting to talk to both John Stengel Sr. and Bill Murphy at the shows. They each had been directly involved in so many aspects of Marx originals and reissues.

      • admin says:

I have talked to Bill and I will combine his comments with mine on the article. I hope to have it up tonight.

      • Bill Nevins says:

Don, Yes, John is gone and with him a lot of insider knowledge of the plastic soldier world.
I’ve heard that Bill Murphy’s health is not good, which is a shame.
Bill knows where all the bodies are buried.

Their like will never pass this way again.

        • ed borris says:

Bill seemed fine at OTSN, has a problem with his hands but otherwise seemed healthy. I talked to him for a bit he seemed to be himself.

  4. Henry Paas says:

i too would of liked to get a set i just didn’t know the material so i was weary of buying
