York Toy Show December 2017 Fun Time

York Toy Show December 2017 Fun Time this one of several shows I can attend before the year ends. It is the Sunday after Thanksgiving and it is a nice ride if the weather is fine.   the show has a number of dealers we get only once a year. This gives us a chance to find unusual items. We also get to see some friends. After the show we get a great meal.

York Toy Show December 2017 Fun Time  The Trip

Laurie and I have been going to the York Toy show for a number of years. The ride is about 2 hours from our house and we arrived just after the general crowd started going in.  The show has two big halls. Normally we do the East Hall first. this year we did the West Hall as Laurie was not going to do a lot of walking. She was planning on staying at the tables of our friend Gerry Watts.

As we got to Gerry’s tables, Gerry was talking to another friend Rich Kozlowski. I consider them along with myself true toy hunters. We have turned up a lot of  amazing items. Gerry directed me down to another dealer’s table who had a big bag of junk figures.  I ended up buying that and some other figures.

Laurie did a few rows with me before going back to help Gerry at his tables as he was alone.  I started my search. One thing I know with York I will find something out of the ordinary. This year it was Britains Floral garden pieces. I have picked these up over the years mostly in the UK.  So I was surprised to see a quantity of pieces for sale . The major piece was the pond.

Also a surprise was to find at the same stand the rare zoo keeper with right arm up. He only came in the Chimpanzee Party.  The only negative is his base it warped and needs straightening.

York Toy Show December 2017 Fun Time The Search Continues

Once Laurie left me I went through the various rows. I saw several playsets and many loose assecories. I passed on most of them as  they were at full retail or higher. One dealer had the Marx Untouchable warehouse. He may have had reissue parts on it. I passed as the dealer was not around. From the other prices I saw the dealer had I felt the warehouse would be at full retail.  Still I found buys here and there.

In the East Hall I found two bags of of Britains animals. I also found a Marx dead horse. Besides the items I found I got to say hello to a number of people including Mike Rosso and Chris Lamont.  I got to check in with them. One person I had not seen in years was a collector Norman Carey. Laurie and I had met him at the Marx Meet.

Laurie was having great time helping Gerry with his sales. She had one funny incident. I dropped a small lot including a Processed Plastic 2 1/2 Tan army truck.  Larie put it under a table and went to take care of a sale. Next thing she saw a guy looking through the items. She replied that those items were sold. The guy said. “Then you should put them somewhere else.” Laurie’s reply was, “There is no where else to put them.  Maybe I should put them up my butt.” The guy walked away. LOL

For myself I spent  a dollar for two Technolog 54mm samurai figures.

After roaming for two hours  we decided to leave after I purchase some figures from Gerry.

After we left the show we went to Bob Evans a fast causal restaurant.  We lost our Bob Evans about five years ago. We like their country fried steak. As I said before we always eat good after a show. I learned that from my father. We  had a nice trip home.

I think I’ve already mentioned some of the “adventures” (misadventures?) in the loose figure boxes. I couldn’t believe how rude some of the folks were – my wife was proud of my self-control, though. Just kind of takes the fun out of it though.

I rarely have problems in going through junk boxes. Many times I will see the other person gets figures he is looking for. I don’t worry anymore as I have acquired so many figures for my collection and resale that I have a lay back attitude. I have had to stand my ground a few times with rude people which can spoil things.
